About Rockys
Backyard Ultra
Rockys Backyard Ultra is more than just a run, it’s a gathering. We’re here to bring people together, to share laps, laughs, and the challenge of going just one more round. Whether you’re aiming for a personal best or just keen for a few loops with friends, this event is built around community, spirit, and enjoying the outdoors.
Our Vision
We want Rocky’s to become a local tradition. An iconic annual race that Tauranga runners, walkers, families, and supporters look forward to every year. The goal is simple: create a space where everyone feels welcome, where pushing limits and cheering others on go hand in hand. It’s about celebrating endurance, resilience, and the joy of being part of something bigger than yourself.
Who is Rocky?
Rocky was the heart behind this event. Stubborn, fun, and always up for another lap, he embodied the spirit of a true backyard ultra runner. In memory of him, we created Rocky’s Backyard Ultra as a way to honor his energy and share it with our community. This event is for Rocky, and for everyone who knows the joy of getting outside together.
