Why Rocky’s?

Rocky’s Backyard Ultra is more than just a run, it’s a gathering. We bring people together to share laps, laughs, and the challenge of going just one more round.

We want Rocky’s to become a local tradition, an iconic annual race that Tauranga’s runners, walkers, families, and supporters look forward to every year.

Rocky was the heart of this event stubborn, fun, and always up for another lap. In his memory, we created Rocky’s Backyard Ultra to honor his energy and share it with our community.

Join the Race

Race Rules

Rule 1 – Starting Each Loop

All runners must begin their loop on the hour, every hour. Anyone not present at the start line will be considered out of the race.

Rule 2 – Course Distance

Each loop is approximately 6.7 km. The course will be clearly marked and must be completed within the hour to continue.

Rule 3 – Timing

Runners must complete each lap within 60 minutes. The remaining time before the next lap is considered rest time.

Rule 4 – Last Runner Standing

The event continues until only one runner remains who can complete a solo lap within the time limit. This runner will be declared the winner.

Collect your bib, timing chip, and event T-shirt at the registration tent.

Race Briefing

Join us at the start line for a short briefing on rules, course safety, and race spirit.

8:00 AM

First Loop Starts

Every runner begins the first 6.7 km loop. Each following loop starts on the hour.

Until One Remains

Last Runner Standing

The race continues until only one runner remains who can complete a solo loop.
